This is not specific to Springfield but the entire RMV as an agency. My son and I have both been trying to call to reinstate his license after a 3-month suspension for speeding. He took the classes and paid the fine but the website is not allowing him to schedule a new permit test. I was on hold for 3 hours today beginning at 9:05. At 9:05 there was supposedly 85 callers ahead of me. I tried calling before 9:00 and it wouldn't accept the call. The same thing happened yesterday at 9:10 there were 85 calls ahead of me. I kept the phone on hold in the background for 3 and 1/2 hours and then it suddenly clicked off. When I went to call back they were not taking any more calls for the day. Maybe they should make their website work a little better if they don't have people to answer phones. Or be like the doctor's office where you can enter your number to keep your place in line. I don't care if they call me back 3 days from now as long as I get to speak to somebody. My son is never going to get his license back Horrible service. Not only do I have to sit on the phone and wait for 3 hours to talk to a human being, I have also had multiple representatives telling me misinformation from the start. One example, for instance, one rep told me I can schedule a hearing to get my license back. So, I picked a day and time that I was available. Told her my days off as well. When the hearing officer called me, I was at work. She told me there is no such thing as making a specific appointment. They call you when they get assigned to your case and it’s within the two week period. And she also said she only got a time frame on when to call. Nothing about my days off in her notes. And Now I’ve been calling all morning (to pay my reinstatement fee) with no answer whatsoever. It picks up my phone call, but there is no one on the other end. Not even the automated message in the beginning. And I also live out of state, so I literally cannot pay my fee online. It won’t let me. It wouldn’t even let me make an appointment online to request a hearing in the beginning. It says my information is not verified. I’m assuming because I live out of state. I either have to call or go down there without an appointment, and who knows how long I would be sitting there.. I would like to say Thank you to staff at the Springfield Massachusetts RMV for the quickest turn around times that I have ever seen since I’ve started driving in 1988. The service was professional, courteous and the kindest I’ve ever had. Please keep up the great and speedy work you all do for us! You are all appreciated for what you do to keep us going! It is not an easy profession and you deal with everything unimaginable at times but again Thank you for everything 🍀 Pleasantly surprised! Everyone I interacted with was extremely helpful and patient. Process went very smoothly. Had to make an appointment at the RMV website. And, other than some glitches due to my insurance agency making a misstake, I was in and out in an hour. I have never seen such, red tape, wait time and baloney to go through just to apply for a learners permit. GOOD LUCK getting an appointment. According to the reservation window on the website...the wait time is only 29 DAYS AWAY! Ridiculous! Your tax dollars at work. Calling them does not help as they WILL teer you wrong and you will end up making a trip for nothing. BY FAR the WORST agency in the world! It's rare that I ever give a one-star review but I really am shocked how bad the RMV is. I've lived in 9 states. None of them even come close to the lack of organization in Massachusetts. Walk-in, online, and phone experiences have all been horrible. And that's with me being as polite and patient as I could possibly be. I really feel for the employees though - they are clearly working with a broken system of inaccurate and contradictory information. Do not believe the multiple recordings and phone numbers provided with completely inaccurate information. I have been trying to resolve an issue that was a mistake in the first place, for months now. What a nightmare. Trying to help one of my employees settle a matter and no one will answer the phone. On 6 July 22 I was on hold for 3 hrs and no one answered. They shut done inbound calls 7 July 22 due to to many calls. Today have been on hold for 2 hours and they have changed the wait time from 30 min, to 40 min, to 50 mins, to 1 hour. I'm wondering how this is possible, asking for a friend. Hey just a thought if you have more work then the employees can handle, that's when you hire more people or bring in other departments to help! This is government miss use of power! An oversite committee should be reviewing where the bottle neck is and fixing it. No one enjoys going to the RMV but the people here really make it as painless as possible. The wait went quickly. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. We lost track of some items while we were there but staff helped us out and we recovered them without much fuss.
