It smells like a lemony fresh detergent, seriously. haha. It is lightly scented, but it does have that astringent cleanser smell that I associate with household cleaning products. This mask goes on smooth and creamy, easy to apply. It does dry down, but it doesn’t tighten or make my skin itchy ~ in fact, it has a pleasant cooling effect (not a tingling ~ I know some people cannot tolerate a really good bracing mask, but this is not one of those!) I rinsed off with warm water after 20 minutes, massaging it into my skin so that the little charcoal grains would exfoliate a bit more ~ my skin did feel smoother and clearer, and more pores looked very clean and more “tight”. The redness from my blemish on my nose was also reduced. I do like this mask a lot! Not only can you get this off amazon but online Target stores carry this too! Well, a bit of both!! You put this mask on your face for 5 minutes, then TISSUE it off, patting in the remaining cream into your skin and then leaving it on overnight. Okay! This has cilantro (which makes me hungry..) and orange in it to help detox, brighten and soften your skin. Description from Kiehls: “Formulated with Cilantro and Orange Extract, our treatment masque helps skin feel strengthened against environmental aggressors while helping to prevent impurities from adhering to skin. With continued use, dull, unhealthy looking skin is renewed, radiant and protected.Orange Extract is a strong antioxidant blocks damage-causing pollution that attaches to the skin. Cilantro Extract helps to strengthen the skin barrier to keep skin replenished, hydrated, and supplied with essential nutrients often depleted by pollution damage.” When I open up this jar, I can see that this mask is very creamy and a lovely spring leaf green shade. It also smells strange ~ not BAD, but weird. Like a meaty orange. Seriously ~ maybe my sinuses are playing tricks on me, but I smell bacon!! haha. Meat mask! But there is no meat in this product and the smell is very light so it isn’t THAT bad. I applied this mask on my face, left it on for 5 minutes and then used a dry tissue (not a cleansing wipe) to remove the product. When I wiped the mask off, I did get some on my lips and this is very sweet tasting! Don’t eat it, but just letting you know that the scent and the flavor are totally different experiences 🙂 I then massaged and tapped the residue into my skin ~ it is very tacky and sticky. BTW ~ I did put on my serums prior to this mask, so I still had those products underneath it. I went to sleep. In the morning, my skin was softer, very hydrated, smoother and no breakouts, very clear and there was no tacky feeling ~ the mask had absorbed completely into my skin. It contains applemint (not apple AND mint) extracts and is supposed to be a cooling, exfoliating mask ~ I dug this out while doing my Cool Down review and it didn’t make the cut. It has apricot kernel seed bits in it ~ argghhh, no ~ to exfoliate your skin. Why not just put sandpaper in this product??? The scent is unusual ~ took me a few minutes to place it ~ it is that fermented apple cider scent, not from a fresh icy cold glass of cider, but if you go apple picking and you visit the cider mills ~ that fermented winey scent from the apples. Applemint is supposed to smell like apples, so I guess this is it. It isn’t bad, but it isn’t what I expected from a product that is supposed to be cooling and refreshing and with all of the peppermint extracts in it as well. Speaking of which, this is neither cooling or refreshing. The mask didn’t even have the courtesy to dry down, but remained a gluey texture on my face until I rinsed it off. So, nopes, two major thumbs down for this one. However, I will re-purpose this as I think this would be a great foot mask treatment with the apricot scrubby bits. I can just slather it on, kick my feet up on some paper, and wait 20 minutes ~ scrub off. Waste not, want not! It also contains oatmeal, which will help soften and remove dead skin cells, while hydrating and moisturizing your skin, tea tree extract ~ which is an anti-bacterial and will help heal and soothe blemishes. This is a thick greenish clay mask where I can see the oatmeal grains and smell the tea tree extracts! Word of warning: if you have sensitive skin, under a special skin treatment or have dry skin, I would not recommend this mask. For us oily skinned people ~ this mask has an initial tingle for about 2 minutes that is quite intense ~ and then it just becomes a nice cooling clay mask. I love this mask in the summertime ~ I purchased my first tub last year and this is my second tub, as it is so refreshing and cooling. Just be careful that your skin type can tolerate the freeze!! It cleans out my pores and exfoliates, with the gentle oats in the scrub ~ after I rinse off the mask, my face feels cool and refreshed, my pores look smaller ~ after the Skinfood Black Sugar mask the other day that left my skin blotchy and red, I needed this! I love Innisfree’s Bija facial sheet mask and it is no surprise that they took two very good blemish and oil controlling ingredients and mixed them together. I bet you didn’t know that that Innisfree made a clay mask outside of their volcanic pore masks!! Many people don’t, as for some reason, this clay mask is only available in the small capsule pods and it isn’t really apparent that this is a clay mask if you just read the name. At any rate, this mask does make you look like Shrek (green skin, no weird ear horns, thankfully) and it has a nice bija/tea tree scent to it ~ the clay mask is smooth and creamy and is easily applied. It dries down nicely too ~ it doesn’t tighten or make my skin itch ~ just rinse with warm water after it is dry on your face (about 15-20 minutes) and nice, clean skin! This does a great job with excess oil and removing dirt in your pores. If you are looking for something different from the volcanic clay mask, give this one a try ~ and also pick up their soothing aloe vera capsule pack to put on afterwards as a sleep pack ~ these two little capsule packs are perfect for traveling. You can get 2 to 3 uses out of each pod as well. So, I think this was one of their original packaging designs, but when I look at the manufactured date on my scrub ~ this is a peeling product, by the way, not a traditional scrub ~ it was made last year. So, I don’t know ~ Yes Style still carries this (which is where I purchased it) and Rose Rose Shop Wholesale sells it. Maybe this type of packaging with the “warranted pure herb” label is still available in certain markets? Or Innisfree pulled the plug on this packaging and series? They did this with the amazing Green Ginseng Hair Tonic (sobs…) I know they do not have a replacement for this peeling gel, so not sure… Weird. But I do like this!! You can see the little bits of lemongrass in here (they are yellowish green) and this peeling gel works in the same way other peeling gels work ~ you put on dry skin, massage into your skin for a minute or two and it will exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, excess oil and dirt. This doesn’t smell too much like lemongrass, it has a bit of a plastic-y scent, but it is very faint and not noticeable. This works very well, my face is smoother and dare I say, looks brighter? I happen to like this a lot, which I am not sure at this point if it is the packaging (yep, very nice and herbal), it is by Innisfree (one of my favorite brands) or that it looks like it is discontinued (which I will clutch this to my bosom and weep). Or it could be that I like the soft texture and it feels good on my skin and does its job. It could be all of those reasons… If you don’t mind purchasing an item that is probably discontinued, I do recommend this ~ but don’t fall in love with it. So, I had this powder (unopened) from when Memebox was GLOBAL, kicking around my home. I decided to try it as what is the worst that can happen? It’s powder, amirite? Before I mixed this with some water and applied it to my face, I wanted to know what it was – Nu-ruk (which I immediately word associated with nunchucks for some reason) is a wild fermentation starter (yeast) made from whole grains that is colonized with many wild yeasts and molds (Aspergillus Rhizopus yeasts). It is traditionally used to brew Korean Makgeolli. It is also known as amylase enzyme, from what I have read, and it is is supposed to be known for moisturizing, brightening and anti-wrinkle effects, as it also contains kojic acid. Nuruk is also full of proteins and vitamins, polyphenols and isoflavones. So… next. How to use ~ you can mix with water, milk, honey or plain yogurt. My original Memebox Unboxing (this came in Whole Grains 2 box ~ back in the day when Memebox did really interesting themes for their boxes) said to spread the mixture on my face, place a gauze over it and then apply another layer of the pack. No gauze, so only one layer. This smells like bread. Very yeasty and very strong scent, which just made me very hungry for a nice brioche. After 20 minutes, I hopped into the shower and started to massage this off my face ~ it has rough grains, so it exfoliates ~ and OMG. My face. So smooth. Not dry or stripped, but SMOOTH. It flatted out any bumps. It made a whitehead disappear. My face didn’t feel greasy or oily, but I could feel that it had the right amount of oils. Does that make sense? SO WONDERFUL. I want MOAR of this. I can purchase a 120 g bag of this stuff for 12 bucks on Amazon. I could purchase from Youngface, but I would use a shipping service as they don’t ship to the USA directly, so I would use Korean Buddy ** if I did that route. Ingredients: 100% Nuruk powder The mask is very smooth and I can easily apply it. I left my mask on for 20 minutes and one of the lovely things about it is that when it dried down, it didn’t dry down to a flaky mess that makes your skin all tight. It still had some moisture in the mask, so it would not pull or tighten on my face, and it was very smooth without cracking or peeling off my face. I used my konjac sponge to remove and my face felt really nice and hydrated, no dry feeling ~ my skin is very smooth and a nice even skin tone. I am really excited about this mask and will use it several times a week. I don’t know I have tried a mask before with fermented pineapple extracts, have you? The scent is less pleasant when I apply it to my face ~ it smells more burnt at that point. According to the instructions, leave on for 5 to 10 minutes then rinse off, massaging the scrub (yes, this is more of a scrub than a mask) into your face, helping to exfoliate your skin. This does leave my skin smooth, soft and glowing. No redness, just really nice skin and my tone is more even and bright. Bonvivant Mellow Clay Mask Hawaiian Pink Calamine This pink mask has a cool bouncy pudding-like texture and it has no odor as far as I can tell. It applies smoothly and I left it on for 25 minutes as I had a thicker layer on my face. As it dried down, I could feel my skin tightening ~ it was not uncomfortable but you should know that it does cause that tight and slightly itchy feeling on your skin. I rinsed off the mask when dry, using a sponge to help remove all of the bits. I have to say, I was shocked by the results! I thought this would just reduce the redness and swelling from blemishes, but it also gave my skin a brighter and more radiant look! What strange magic is in this mask? Could calamine cause a more brighter look? I will have to research the ingredient list and look for what could have caused this amazing brightening on my skin! Update: Yes, it looks like calamine can cause brightening of the skin tone as it is basically zinc oxide, which helps fade blemishes, hyper-pigmentation and give an overall brightening effect on your face. In fact, I learned that many people use calamine lotion to help fade and prevent blemishes, control oil and also as a moisturizer. It also helps block UVA and UVB rays, giving your skin some protection against the sun. Description: The Pink Calamine mask calms and relieves red, dry, and flaky skin, thanks to its star ingredient Calamine that treats even sunburns and rashes. The clay is not as “bouncy” as the Pink Hawaiian Calamine mask I used last night ~ it is a bit more thinner in texture, like not-quite-yet-set pudding. It applies on smoothly and doesn’t seem to have an odor that I can detect. When it dries down it doesn’t tightening or pull at my skin, so it is a gentle clay mask. I rinsed this off after 15 minutes, and this was a mask that took a bit of time to remove ~ it really didn’t want to leave my skin! Once again, I went into using this mask as meh, another Volcanic mask.. big woop. However, I had two small little blemishes that were right under my skin and this mask actually drew them out and expelled them! That is a pretty BFD! I am pleased with this mask because it really is working to remove toxins and draw out impurities in clogged pores. Unlike the other two masks in the series, Jeju Volcanic & Hawaiian Pink Calamine, the texture of this mask is thin and almost watery ~ with gritty little bits swimming in a light green-gray clay mask It also has a scent ~ of mint! I love mint, so this is a really nice aromatherapy experience as well as an exfoliating mask. This has a cooling sensation due to the mint in it, and it really feels nice on ~ even the dry down on the mask is pleasant as it does tighten my skin, but not in that horrible “I need to remove this mask now” feeling. After 10 minutes, I rinsed it off, massaging it into my skin as it contains little walnut powder bits ~ very fine ~ and that will help exfoliate my skin further. Verdict: My pores looked smaller, my face felt smoother plus refreshed as I still felt the cooling effects of the mint. It helped smooth out some small closed blemishes I had around my chin area and my face didn’t feel dry or stripped but hydrated. Two thumbs up on this mask! Description: The Mint Tea Tree mask treats troubled and oily skin, removing dead skin cells and absorbing excess sebum with its Tea Tree Oil. It also tightens enlarged pores and cools skin with a refreshing sensation, leaving you shining radiantly in a non-greasy way. It claims that it will help deep cleanse and reduce the appearance of pores (due to the pomegranate enzymes), detoxify your skin (kaolin clay) and remove dead skin cells, to reveal new skin (white willow extracts). This mask is very much a gel like consistency in a peachy-pink color. It is translucent and has a very strong herbal scent ~ in fact, it reminds me of citronella (a green, lemongrass, citrus scent). This mask is to be applied thickly (I did the best I could with a sample) and then left on for at least 20 minutes. The gel does harden and dry down, like a shiny transparent peach shell, and it isn’t irritating to my skin. After rinsing off, I could see a noticeable difference in my pores ~ they looked tighter and smaller. My skin had an overall brightening tone and felt very smooth. I have a blemish near my mouth (ahhh, summer!) and that was reduced in redness and was slightly smaller in size. I would like to try this out for a longer time period, so I am going to see if there are deals on eBay, as a 1 oz jar is $58.00!! I love this wash off mask pack, I feel like I need to have a banana and a pineapple (and rum) and make some fruity tropical drink. It smells JUST like coconut. Does it help with anti-aging? Does it keep me young? I don’t know ~ I just know I love the scent, the hydration (and this does hydrate) and it is so cooling on my skin. You can see that there are little bits of coconut in this milky white jelly (a bit runny) and it also has mango extracts too. This mask pack is supposed help nourish to my “saggy” skin (their words, not mine) and it will help provide elasticity and the coconut oils will moisturize. I leave on for 10 minutes (it will be sticky, but not quite dry) and then massage it onto my skin for 1 to 2 minutes, as the coconut pulp will help exfoliate the dead skin cells. My skin feels so soft and smooth afterwards! It wasn’t that bad of a scent, but it is very dank vegetation scent. I put this on and now I am the Bride of Swamp Thing! This dries down quickly into a lighter shade of green and it does tighten, but not too much that it is uncomfortable. After it was dry, about 10-15 minutes, I rinsed off with warm water, massaging it around to help exfoliate. This did deep cleanse my face, tightening up the appearance of my pores and helping to reduce swelling and redness ~ this humid heatwave that we are experiencing in the Northeast is really causing my skin to produce a ton more oil, meaning that I wake up with little whiteheads and bumps. Plus I seem to be breaking out in heat rashes too.. I love warm weather, but not humid with no ocean near me. This mask is very thick coming out of the tub ~ there is supposed to be a tub version, which I would think would be easier to remove and apply ~ the tube application is slow going! It is a very smooth mask, smells divine, with a light tan color. I left it on for 20 minutes, and it did harden and tighten. It was easy to rinse off and my face looked clearer, more pores more tighter and my skin didn’t feel dry or tight, but smooth and soft. Two thumbs up for a clay mask that makes me want to eat it! I wasn’t sure how well suited it would be for my fine, straight and oily hair. This is a deep conditioning hair mask made with 100% certified USDA organic ingredients such as coconut oil. It will help repair damaged hair, stimulate hair growth, strengthen dry/damaged hair, lock in moisture to prevent split ends and frizzies, and will result in stronger, thicker hair with shine. Okay, that is what this mask is ~ I heated up the pack in the microwave for 20 seconds and then applied it very carefully to my dry hair (doesn’t need to be freshly washed, just dry). This smells amazing ~ very coconut, with some tropical florals. I used my scalp brush to comb and massage the oil into my hair and then put on my turbie twist. I have chin length hair, so I was able to use only 1/2 of the package. I did leave this on overnight (my turbie twist fell off, leaving me with a wonderfully scented and oily pillowcase (into the wash it goes!). I washed my hair twice, making sure to get all of the oil out, used a light conditioner. I did not put any other products in my hair, as I wanted to see how my hair would look after I blew it dry. Well, my hair has VOLUME, BOUNCE and is so silky shiny. And it does feel thicker and fuller to my touch. I usually don’t get that type of bouncy hair unless I put styling products in my hair. Half Moon Eyes Pink Fruity Wash Off Mask Pack ~ I purchased mine off amazon, as they had free shipping and I wanted to try this clay pore mask made with dragonfruit! Skin18 also carries this as well, in individual packs (click here). Dragonfruit will remove excess oil, tighten pores and hydrate your skin. Dragonfruit is supposed to smell sweet and light, so I was pretty excited to try this out. I can see the seeds of the dragonfruit in the mask pack, which is a dark salmon pink in color. The scent is quite..unusual. It smells like perfumed clay. It is not the best scent in the world and I don’t know why it has such a heavy fragrance that is so artificial. The texture is like play-doh ~ very hard to apply ~ it is not a smooth application and crumbles. I left this mask on for 15 minutes and then rinsed off, using the seeds to help exfoliate even more ~ there was some dry down but no itchy or burning feeling on my skin. Despite the scent and texture, this mask was surprisingly efficient! My pores were very clean and smaller in size and my face has a nice radiant glow. I just wish they would do something about the scent..
