Just got this product and almost returned it because it wouldn't turn on. Following the instructions in the User Guide, I plugged it in to charge with the charging cable that it came with in the box. The charging light turned red, so I thought, all is well. Left it to charge. When I came back, the charging light was flashing red-green constantly. I unplugged it and tried turning it on, it wouldn't turn on. I made sure my adapter was following regular 5V-1A. I tried resetting it with a pin, checked the paper cartridge if something was jammed/wrong, nothing. Plugged to my computer and left it again to charge again for a few more hours, tried again, can't turn on. Reset second time, left to charge more again on another wall socket, still wouldn't turn on.

The instruction manual warns in BOLD to only use the genuine cable provided, so that was what I did and scared to try anything else. Was so sad because I was really looking forward to this printer so much, but I thought, just tried one more time before I return it. So I tried charging using another micro-USB cable that I have around [genuine cable from my Kindle]. And... IT WORKS. After a while, it CAN turn on. So I think the official cable it came with from Kodak wasn't fitted properly [it just won't plug in nicely like my Kindle cable did] and/or was faulty. I expected very high quality from Kodak, this really disappoints me.

So if you got RED-GREEN flashing lights while charging Kodak MIni 2 and it wouldn't turn on, might worth a shot to try using other genuine cables that you have around.

Just tried printing now, app works fine and connection via NFC was fast. You can't expect amazing/professional printing studio quality, but it's quite ok and I like it enough for something instant & super portable. Size of the photo is credit card size, which I really like. The printer is quite lightweight to carry around as well.

So like the other reviews have stated, as of January 24, 2018, there are no refill cartridges available anywhere online [not even on Kodak's website]. I placed an order for them with BH Photo & Adorama [they're both back ordered], and I'm hoping they'll restock and arrive in the next month or so. To some extent, it's not all that surprising because it seems the Mini 2 only launched recently. That said, it's REALLY annoying that Amazon recommends a bundle with cartridges that DO NOT FIT! [seriously, what the heck is up with that, Amazon!]

That said, the device itself still functions pretty well. Getting it to sync with your phone is a little bit tricky at first, but I managed to get it to connect without much issue. I noticed that photos taken with low lighting are printed a little darker than they appear on your mobile device, but photos taken outdoors or in good lighting are pretty closely replicated in the print. The app lets you adjust exposure, though, so I'm not all that concerned with slightly darker prints.

I had contemplated a couple other options that use ZINK technology, but ultimately opted for the Kodak Mini 2 because of it's reliable printing technology. The pictures do come out really clear and pretty accurate in color [minus the exposure issue at times]. If I had known the Mini 2 cartridges were unavailable, I would've gotten the older version of this [Kodak Mini]. I just like the smaller size and design of the Mini 2 when I made my final decision. So if you don't want to deal with waiting for cartridges to come back in stock, check the Kodak Mini out!

Is Kodak Mini 2 Retro worth it?

Print quality is very impeccable and excellent. The colors does not precisely copy from the source material but it gives a film-like glow reminiscent of old Kodak photos which I liked. For the app and basic printing, the setup was easy and I had little problems connecting to the app.

Are Kodak printers any good?

The image quality is good, I have no complaints, we made a few Xmas ornaments with the photos. Fits into my backpocket so it's super convenient to carry around. Worked flawlessly. Like all Zink printers, the colors are a bit off, but good for quick memory keeping.

Are mini photo printers worth it?

Mini photo printers offer a unique blend of convenience and quality, making them a worthwhile investment for photography enthusiasts and casual users alike. With options like the HPRT MT53 ZINK printer, you can enjoy high-quality, ink-free prints wherever you go.
