E.g: They consider repairing their old kitchen. [Họ cân nhắc việc sửa lại cái bếp.]

- Sau động từ kép: give up [bỏ], put off [hoãn], keep on [tiếp tục], care for [thích, chăm sóc], see about [lo liệu, sắp xếp], look forward to [mong, mong đợi], be/get used to [quen], etc.

E.g: She is used to going to bed late. [Cô ấy đã quen đi ngủ muộn.]

- Sau một số cụm từ: It's no good, It's no use [Chẳng ích gì], be + worth [đáng]

E.g: It's no use lending money to a gambler. [Cho con bạc mượn tiền thì được ích gì.]

- Sau một số từ với Have: have [any] problem [gặp vấn đề], have fun = have a good time [vui vẻ], have trouble = have difficulty = have a hard time [gặp khó khăn]

E.g: He had difficulty reading and writing when he was at primary school.

[Anh ấy gặp khó khăn với môn đọc và viết khi học tiểu học.]

- Subject complement [bổ ngữ cho chủ ngữ]

E.g: His interest is collecting stamps. [Sở thích của anh ấy là sưu tập tem.]

- Appositive [Đồng vị ngữ/ từ đồng vị]

E.g: Sue has to do her task, cleaning the floor everymorning.

[Cô ấy phải hoàn thành công việc lau dọn nhà vào mọi buổi sáng.]

II. PASSIVE INFINITIVE AND GERUND [BỊ ĐỘNG CỦA ĐỘNG TỪ NGUYÊN THỂ VÀ DANH ĐỘNG TỪ]

1. Passitive infinitive [Động từ nguyên mẫu bị động]

* Dạng 1

- Active pattern: Verb + to infinitive + object

His colleagues started to respect Tim. [Đồng nghiệp bắt đầu tôn trọng Tim.]

- Passive pattern: Verb + to be P2

Kevin hoped to be selected by the team captain. [Kevin hi vọng được lựa chọn bởi đội trưởng.]

- She came to be recognized as the leading violist of her generation.

[Cô ấy được công nhân là nghệ sĩ violin hàng đầy trong thế hệ của mình.]

* Dạng 2: Passive infinitive [Bị động của động từ nguyên thể]

- Active pattern: Verb + object + to infinitive

Mr Price taught Peter to sing.[Ông Price dạy Peter hát.]

- Passive pattern: To be + P2 + to infinitive

Peter was taught to sing [by Mr Price]. [Peter được dạy hát [bởi ông Price].]

2. Passive gerund [Bị động của danh động từ]

* Dạng 1:

- Active pattern: Verb + V-ing + object

I enjoyed taking the children to the zoo. [Tôi thích đưa bọn trẻ đi vườn bách thú.]

- Passive pattern: Verb + being + P2

The children enjoyed being taken to the zoo. [Bọn trẻ thích được đi vườn bách thú.]

*Chú ý: Giữa hai cấu trúc trên có sự khác biệt về ý nghĩa.

E.g: He always avoids being seen by his ex-wife.

[Anh ta luôn tránh bị vỡ cũ nhìn thấy.]

- Active pattern: Verb + object + V-ing

They saw him climbing over the fence.[Họ nhìn thấy hắn trèo qua bờ rào.]

- Passive pattern: To be + P2 + V-ing

He was seen climbing over ther fence. [Hắn bị nhìn thấy đang trèo rào.]
