2022 Judging 

  • Judging will be conducted in two 15-minute sessions [Robot Design/Programming & Innovation Project]. Teams should prepare a presentation for each and be prepared to discuss their Robot Design and Programming as well as the Innovation Project.
  • There will no longer be a Core Values activity. Core Values will be observed and discussed during both judging sessions.

  • All scoring will be done on tablets. This is the same app High Tech Kids Referees will be using at official events.

TEAM AWARDS

Minnesota Regional & Sectional Awards

  • Champions Award.  Presented to the team who embodies the FLL values of community, positive role models, outreach, and sportsmanship is exceptional in each category.
  • Core Values Award. Presentation to the team that best exemplifies the FLL Core Values. Judges will look for teams that work well together and focus on task-specific activities.
  • Innovation Project Award.  Presented to the team whose research presentation covers all aspects of the project and has an in-depth knowledge of the topic. Creativity, innovative solution and sharing are all taken into consideration.
  • Robot Design Award.  Presented to the team whose understanding and application of sound mechanical principals produces the most solid, predictable, and dependable robotic design.
  • Robot Performance Award.  Presented to the team with the highest score in the first three rounds.
  • Coach/Mentor Award. Presented to a coach or mentor whose leadership and guidance is clearly evident and best exemplifies the FIRST Core Values. This award is nominated by teams.
  • MN Programming Award.  Presented to the team best demonstrating an in-depth understanding of sound programming principles and practices.
  • Engineering Excellence Award. Presented to a team with an efficiently designed robot, an innovation project that efficiently addresses the challenge, and excellent Core Values.
  • Breakthrough Award. Presented to a team who understands that what they discover is more important than what they win.
  • Rising All-Star Award.This award celebrates a team that judges notice and expect great things from in the future
  • Motivate Award. Presented to a team that embraces the culture of FIRST LEGO League through team building, spirit and enthusiasm.

Minnesota State Championship Awards

  • Champions Award.  Presented to the team who embodies the FLL values of community, positive role models, outreach, and sportsmanship is exceptional in each category. The State Champions will receive an invitation to a national event.

  • MN Creative Presentation Award. Presented to the team whose presentation was both creative and well presented.
  • Robot Design Award.  Presented to the team whose understanding and application of sound mechanical principles produces the most solid, predictable, and dependable robotic design.
  • MN Programming Award.  Presented to the team best demonstrating an in-depth understanding of sound programming principles and practices.
  • Judge’s Award. This is an open-ended award determined by the Official Judging Panel. There are no special criteria for this award as each judging panel is looking for a one-of-a-kind inspirational story. Teams need only to share their experiences with the judges for consideration.
  • Robot Performance Award. Presented to the team with the highest score in the first three rounds.
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Place Head-to-head Robot Performance Award. Presented to the top four placing teams in the afternoon Head-to-Head elimination rounds.

What is the 2022 FLL theme?

During our 2022-2023 robotics season, FIRST ENERGIZE℠ presented by Qualcomm, FIRST teams across our programs will reimagine the future of sustainable energy and power their ideas forward.

What is the theme for FLL this year?

Each year LEGO Education and FIRST Robotics come together for the FIRST LEGO League season competition and unveil a brand new theme and exclusive sets.

How many students can be on a first Lego League team?

You may recruit 2 to 10 interested team members ages 9 to 16*. A coach is allowed to coach multiple teams. Each team must have at least 2 adult coaches. Once you have a team [you do not need all team member names yet], you may register.

What is the robot game in FLL?

The FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge team works together to design and build a LEGO® robot and then program it to autonomously complete a series of missions to score points in a 2.5-minute robot game.
