REVIEW: BH Cosmetics Studio Pro 18 Piece Brush Set [PART 1]

Makeup brushes are essential tools hence today I’ll review the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro 18 Piece Brush Set with Belt.

I was looking for a brush set that includes face and eye brushes and something easy on the pocket. After reviewing millions of brush sets on Youtube, BH Studio line is a total package moreover because I was lucky to bag a great deal on their website where the Studio Pro line was discounted for $24 originally priced at $60, guess what I was all smiles. I must say all those brushes are so soft just made for your skin.

This brush set is a great dupe for Sigma and MAC brushes, anyone who can’t invest in those should totally opt for BH.

Today I will only review the face brushes as it can get boring to go through all at one time. Following are the 6 face brushes:

1. Large Powder Brush

Great for buffing powder application, setting makeup at the end; you can also slip it into you purse for slight touch-ups.

2. Duo Fiber Stippling Brush

One of the popular brushes, it gives a smooth liquid and creme formulations be it foundations or blushes.

3. Blush Brush

Classic brush for powder blush but for me this is bigger and can put blush in other areas as well. I believe it should be little small and applicable only in check area.

4. Classic Foundation Brush

This brush!! Perfect foundation flat applicator. The best part is it is thick bristle brush usually others make streaky application this one will give you the blur effect on your face.

5. Angled Contour Brush

I use this brush more for highlighter application. This is a bit rounder and thick for precise contouring I like a more pointed edge for it. Great for the strobbing technique now a days.

6. Concealer brush

Looks like the mother “classic foundation brush” but is a smaller version. This conceals amazingly. Little touch and buff is enough for creating a smooth surface to work on.

With the hustle and bustle of new beauty brands on Instagram, affordable makeup is quickly becoming more accessible to consumers. Unfortunately, while cheap, not many inexpensive brands are known for having good quality cosmetics with rich color payoff, dense brushes, or durable [and cute] packaging. To trump this common misconception, I’ve partnered up with one of my favorite makeup brands BH Cosmetics to share some of their best sellers.

BH Cosmetics has been a favorite of mine for several reasons:

  1. Most of their products range from $5-$20
  2. All BH Cosmetics products are cruelty-free!
  3. They have several dupes for high-end cosmetics [more on that later]
  4. Sales often frequent the website

With affordability being the main factors of this brand’s success, their price points make it easy for makeup enthusiasts and professional makeup artists alike to try out new products without breaking the bank. Not only that, but many of their products are comparable to high-end brands that I’ve tried. Keep reading to see my BH favorites and what other brands they compare to!

6 Color Concealer & Corrector Palette: $7.00

I’ve fallen in love with this palette! I tend to have very red skin and oftentimes I turn even more red from the slightest inflammation or pimples, but always stay away from cream-based concealers because most formulas tend to crease or feel extremely heavy. Surprisingly, these concealers actually dry matte and can even be used as eyeshadow bases!

Not only is heaviness a huge turn-off for me, but many inexpensive concealers tend to use mineral oil as a base, and this one does not.

Studio Pro Waterproof Eye Primer: $9.50 $7.60

Literally, that’s all you need for both eyes. A little goes a loooong way.

Honestly, I really didn’t have high hopes for this eye primer because after trying cult favorites like Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance and Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Eyeshadow Primer, I felt like my eyelids were actually becoming oily much faster, making my eyeshadow fade quickly. I love the waterproof formula because it applies matte and actually prevents oily eyelids from developing! Eyeshadows adhere to this formula like crazy, and it’s also helped prevent the fade from my eyeliner too.

Nude Rose Highlight – 4 Color Highlighter Palette: $11.99 $8.39

Swatches on my wrist start from bottom to top and match the palette starting at the top left going clockwise. Color applied 3 times.

I really like this palette for spring and summertime looks when I swap my daily makeup for the “no makeup” look. These highlighters are perfect for nude makeup looks where you want to have radiant and dewy-looking skin. The only con to this palette is that there is a lot of fall-off, but I suspect it’s only because the colors have so much shimmer in it. I’ve learned to apply it with flat buffer brushes and it gives me the perfect bronzed and sun-kissed shimmer. Using a fan brush helps to sweep away all the excess easily.

The packaging also reminds me of Urban Decay’s Nude Palettes!

BH Chic – 14 Piece Brush Set with Cosmetic Case: $25 $17.50

Where would you ever be able to get an entire brush set that covers the eyes, lips and face along with a cute brush bag for less than $25? I admit I had really low hopes for this kit because of the price point, and let’s face it – brush sets that are good quality cost much more, and cheap brush sets usually have several brushes that you don’t really care for. But out of this entire kit, there was probably only one brush that I didn’t use, which was the Precision Eyeliner Brush

14, just because I prefer to use an angled brush to apply my creme eyeliner.

I’ve never had Morphe brushes but have heard several beauty YouTubers compare BH brushes to them. I can also definitely say that there are several face brushes in this kit that have replaced 2 of my MAC Cosmetics brushes which were about $35 each.

The eyeshadow brushes pick up pigment really well and blend really easily. I used to buy single brushes from Coastal Scents but I’ve slowly replaced them with the brushes from this kit too. I wasn’t expecting such good quality for the eyeshadow brushes, especially since I prefer natural hair, but they are densely-packed and work just as well if not better than my natural hair brushes.

Foil Eyes – 28 Color Eyeshadow Palette: $16 $11.20

Swatches on my wrist start from bottom to top and match the bottom row, 5 pans left to right. Color applied once.

I’m not an eyeshadow girl, but I HAD to get my hands on this palette for my girls who are! There is a crazy amount of color payoff, they’re extremely easy to blend, and a little bit goes a long way. They’re shimmer eyeshadows, but unlike most budget eyeshadows, they didn’t go overboard with the shimmer – just enough where the focus is still on the color itself. This palette features several bold and bright colors like purples and blues, and the other half features warm nudes and shades of brown, which make it perfect for a nude smokey eye too. I still can’t believe this contains 28 colors for less than $13. If you’re going to get an eyeshadow palette, make sure this one is at the top of your list.

Studio Pro Matte Finish Pressed Powder: $9.50 $6.65

I’ve heard a lot about BH Cosmetic’s Pressed Powder being a fierce contender to MAC Cosmetics $27 Pro Longwear Powder, so I decided to give this one a go. It’s been several years since using the MAC version, so I’m going off memory, but the BH Cosmetics powder has really good powder coverage and does manage to keep me matte throughout the day, and that’s probably due to the high talc and mica content and complete absence of mineral oil in the formula [yay, no breakouts!]. I couldn’t help but notice that the packaging is also eerily similar [lol].

Forever Nude Sculpt & Glow Contouring Kit: $11.99

Swatches on my wrist start from bottom to top and match the palette starting at the bottom row left going right. Color applied three times.

I’m not a crazy contouring addict because the times I’ve tried high-contrast colors on my face I felt I looked like a clown, but I’m in LOVE with the Forever Nude Contouring Kit in Light/Medium. The shades are buildable and look extremely natural which is a must if you’re a girl like me who spends about 60 seconds with a contour brush to sculpt quickly underneath the cheekbones, jawline, and temples. The highlighters are also extremely pigmented and have major staying power which is perfect for people with oily skin! I use the highlighter on my nose and on my cupid’s bow and it stays all day, even through hot weather.

BH Liquid Lipstick – Long-Wearing Matte Lipstick: $8.99 $6.29

Okay, I’m pretty obsessed with these liquid lipsticks. Out of all the products, I think this falls into my top 3 favorites from BH Cosmetics. I much prefer them over Colorpop Cosmetic’s liquid lipsticks because they are nowhere near as thick and crumbly and have several shades comparable to high-end brands. I got the shades Clara and Lust and did some research only to find them as solid dupes for the below lip colors:

Lust:

  • Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in “Gorg” [$17]
  • D Benoit Matte Lip Colour in “Cranberry Crimson” [$18]
  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in “Unicorn Blood” [$18]
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in “Heathers” [$20]
  • Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in “Havana Nights” [$20]

    Clara:

  • Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in “Dolce K” [$17]
  • Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in “Lolita” [$20]
  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in “Androgyny” [$18]
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in “Veronica” [$20]
  • Girlactik Matte Lip Paint in “Demure” [$23]

What do you use a flat buffer brush for?

A flat top foundation brush for applying liquid makeup will make application quicker, easier, and give you airbrushed-look, flawless, results. The flat top makeup brush can [and should] also be used when applying sheer powders and blushes too.

What is the BH cosmetic brush used for?

Use it to apply body tanner and shimmer, or face powder, bronzer, and blush! The flat top and voluminous bristles evenly spread product across your face without looking too cakey, and also work for blending out larger areas.

How do you use real techniques buffing brush?

Real Techniques Buffing BrushThe bristles massage the product around the skin so that no area is left more covered than another. It is so soft and truly gives the best foundation cover I have ever achieved. Another way in which I use this product is to clean up areas of the face after more makeup has been applied.
